05 / Getting started

Don’t hand over everything on day one.

You understand it. Now what do you actually do? Say one of these, pick one small job, and give it a week: observe, delegate, refine, then loosen the reins.

One week · four stages

  1. Day 1Observe
  2. Days 2–3Delegate
  3. Days 4–5Refine
  4. Days 6–7Loosen

Things to say on day one

Each of these is a real message you could send a helper. Copy it, or open xAI’s ready-made version and add it to your own Grok Bot with one click.

  • Inbox helper

Go through my inbox every morning, sort out what's urgent, and write replies for me to check.

  • Your assistant

Read my messages, email and calendar overnight and tell me the three things that matter today.

  • Meeting prep

Before each meeting, put together who's coming, what we said last time, and what's still open.

  • Finding candidates

Look for people who'd suit this role, write a first message in my voice, and leave me a shortlist.

  • Expenses

Every Friday, pull the week's expenses together and chase anyone who hasn't sent a receipt.

  • Ticket sorting

Check the support queue twice a day, draft the replies, and only message me if something looks serious.

  • Travel

Find flights and a hotel for Chicago next month within my usual budget, check with me, then book it.

  • Subscriptions

Go through my receipts and find every subscription I'm paying for. Suggest what to cancel.

Your first job

Choose something small you already do well

The first job sets the pattern for everything after it. Think of one, then tick what’s true of it:

Your job matches

0/4

Tick the ones that describe the job you have in mind.

If it matches three or four, it’s probably a good first job.

Sorting an inbox into piles, pulling the week’s expenses together, prepping a meeting: all three fit. Not sure? See six good first jobs.

Starting out

Your first week

A calm way in, whether it’s just you or a whole team. Start small, learn what works, then hand over more.

01 / 04 · Day 1

Observe

Pick one small job you already do well, so you'd spot a mistake straight away.

  1. 01Only log it into the accounts that one job needs — not everything at once.
  2. 02Decide who it should come to when something looks odd.

What you’re learning

Whether it understands the job the way you do, before it touches anything that matters.

After week one

You don’t need twenty helpers.

You need a few jobs that run quietly and reliably save you time. Add the next one only when the last one has stopped surprising you, and keep the real decisions — money, sending, deleting — behind your approval.
